Joseph Kosinski Directs ‘Doom’ Live-Action Trailer (Video)

The revival of the first-person shooter video game franchise is due out in May

“Doom” is stepping up its marketing campaign with a live-action trailer directed by Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind “Tron: Legacy” and Tom Cruise sci-fi movie “Oblivion.”

The 60-second clip is little more than a long and violent action sequence full of signature “Doom” monsters. It looks cool, but obviously doesn’t not reflect much of anything about the game aside from, maybe, tone.

The video’s description says “the trailer evokes the pillars of ‘DOOM”s gameplay: Relentless Combat, Terrifying Demons, and Bad Ass Guns.”

Bethesda and id Software are launching the fourth proper “Doom” game on May 13, and they’ve been ramping up the marketing considerably of late with trailer after trailer. Previous previews have demonstrated gameplay of the protagonist, a faceless space marine, killing lots of demons.

If fans want a true preview of the game, the beta version becomes available online today at 7 p.m. PT and accessible through the weekend.

“Doom” will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May.
