The actor portraying the 12th Doctor will be unveiled during a live broadcast on BBC and BBC America
The actor who will replace Matt Smith as the titular lead on BBC's long-running sci-fi series "Doctor Who" will be announced on Sunday.
The BBC announced on Thursday that the 12th Doctor's identity will be revealed during a live "BBC One" show that begins at 7 p.m. London time, while BBC America will simultaneously broadcast the live event at 2 p.m. ET.
Smith announced he was giving up the role after four years last June. He will return for the special, along with other previous Doctors, to give an interview.
Head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will also speak during the half-hour BBC broadcast.
"The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS," Moffat said in a statement. "For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve."
