DreamWorks Animation Names Dawn Taubin Head of Marketing

The Warner Brothers marketing vet replaces Anne Globe, who resigned earlier this week

Dawn Taubin has been tapped to run DreamWorks Animation marketing after the departure of Anne Globe earlier this week, the studio announced Thursday.

It's a return to a big studio for Taubin, who ran Warner Bros.’ domestic marketing from 2002 to 2008, including during the heart of the studio’s “Harry Potter” run. Taubin has spent the last five years teaching at Chapman University — though she kept one foot in Hollywood during that time, consulting with live-action DreamWorks, Disney, Sony and other companies on PR, marketing and awards campaigns.

“Dawn’s vast experience in marketing franchise films with a global reach is a perfect fit as we continue to diversify and expand our brand,” DWA chief Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a statement.

Taubin, the daughter of legendary agent and studio exec Guy McElwaine, started her film career as an assistant to the director of publicity at theater chain National Amusements. She worked her way up at MGM and was promoted to domestic marketing president at Warners in 2002.

Globe left her post as Chief Marketing Officer to start her own consulting business, Katzenberg said in a memo to staff Monday. The 17-year DWA vet left in the wake of box office disappointments "Turbo" and "Rise of the Guardians" (with an above-average "The Croods" in between) – but Katzenberg highlighted the many successes, including the marketing of megahits "Kung Fu Panda" and "Shrek," television shows, Broadway productions and awards campaigns.
