The upcoming Dwayne Johnson holiday film from Amazon Studios has tapped Jake Kasdan to direct, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.

The film is set to begin production in 2022 with a 2023 holiday release planned.

Kasdan will also produce the film on behalf of his production company, The Detective Agency, alongside Melvin Mar and co-producer Sky Salem Robinson.

The film will reunite Kasdan, Johnson and the star’s Seven Bucks Productions following their blockbusters “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which combined have earned $1.7 billion globally.

The film is based on an original story by Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks’ president of production. The holiday mystery film is described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”

Johnson joined the project, previously titled “Red One,” with Amazon Studios in June with “Fast and Furious” screenwriter Chris Morgan set to write.

Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will produce on behalf of Seven Bucks Productions. Morgan will also produce.

Seven Bucks’ upcoming film releases include “Red Notice,” “Black Adam” and “League of Super-Pets.” Previous credits include “Jungle Cruise,” “Jumanji,” “Jumanji: The Next Level,” “Hobbs & Shaw,” “The Titan Games,” “Ballers” and “Young Rock.”

Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks Productions, and Mar are represented by WME. Kasdan is represented by WME and Sloss Eckhouse Dasti Haynes LawCo. Morgan is represented by ICM and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
