Dylan Byers Jumps to CNN From Politico

“Scoop machine” will start as senior media correspondent on Sept. 14, two days before the network’s Republican presidential primary debate

Politico media reporter Dylan Byers will become CNN’s senior reporter for media and politics, the network’s senior media correspondent and host of “Reliable Sources” Brian Stelter announced on Wednesday.

The release appears to have been made public before distribution of an internal memo to CNN personnel.

Referring to Byers as a “scoop machine,” Stelter said, “Soon we’ll be working together on stories instead of trying to beat each other to them.”

Before Stelter heralded the hire on CNN’s website, Byers tweeted, “I am extremely excited & honored to be joining the CNN Media & Politics teams, which are killing it on all fronts.”

After three and a half years at Politico, Byers will begin his tenure at CNN on Sept. 14, two day’s before the network hosts the next Republican presidential primary debate

Byers is expected to bolster the network’s CNNMoney media team, which Stelter envisions integrating online and on-air coverage efforts.

The move comes just days after CNN hired away Politico staffer Manu Raju as senior political reporter covering congress and the 2016 presidential election.

The count of Politico reporters lost to CNN now includes Byers, Raju, Rachel Smolkin, Hillary Krieger, Daniella Diaz, Jeremy Diamond and Ashley Killough.
