Comcast Entertainment Group president and CEO Ted Harbert is staying with the company for at least five more years, agreeing to a contract extension that will keep him at the cable giant until 2016.
The news comes amid speculation — and at this point, it’s just that — that Harbert could be in for bigger duties once Comcast completes its acquisition of NBC Universal. Right now, Harbert oversees E!, Style, G4, Comcast International Media Group and Comcast Entertainment Productions.
Harbert is a former ABC and NBC Studios executive who’s found major success in the cable world. E!, in particular, has been a big success under Harbert, notching five straight years of record ratings.
"Ted has guided each of our entertainment brands to record-breaking growth in ratings and revenue over the past five years,” said Jeff Shell, President of Comcast’s Programming Group. "I am thrilled Ted will remain on board to ensure our success well into this decade."
