The wife of former Eagles bassist Randy Meisner accidentally shot herself to death, the Los Angeles Police Department said on Monday.

The LAPD said that Lana Meisner “was tragically shot when she moved a firearm that accidentally discharged.”

According to police, North Hollywood patrol officers responded to a call from the couple’s home Sunday at 5:30 p.m., after a woman asked for help for a “possibly intoxicated male suspect.” The police took a domestic-violence report and left.

At 7 p.m., police responded again to a call regarding a shooting, and arrived to find Lana Meisner dead of a single gunshot wound.

An investigation by police and the coroner’s office found that she was moving a rifle in a closet and, as she lifted the rifle in the case, another item in the case shifted, hitting the trigger and causing it to discharge, leading to the fatal wound.

Police said that the former Eagles musician was “cooperative throughout the investigation.”
