Ed Schultz: Laura Ingraham ‘Slut’ Slam Was ‘Vile and Inappropriate’

Beyond-humbled MSNBC personality stops just short of seppuku during Wednesday-night apology for remarks he made Tuesday on his radio show

MSNBC personality Ed Schultz has pulled his foot out of his mouth long enough to issue an apology to Laura Ingraham.

Schultz, who was slapped with a week-long suspension on Wednesday after calling conservative pundit Ingraham a "right-wing slut" and "talk slut" during his "The Ed Show" radio program, once again took to the airwaves on Wednesday night to issue a mea culpa before his time-out.

In addition to Ingraham, Schultz apologized to the staff at MSNBC and to his family, for embarrassing them.

Calling his comments "vile and inappropriate," Schultz continued, "It was wrong, uncalled for and I recognize the severity of what I said. I apologize to you, Laura, and ask for your forgiveness."

Schultz conceded that he had made "a lot of mistakes" during his career, but his remarks about Ingraham was "the lowest of low for me." He added, "I know I let a lot of people down."

The MSNBC made his comments while discussing the right wing's criticism of President Obama's visit to Ireland, at a time when Joplin, Mo. had been ravaged by a tornado.

"President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday, but you know what they’re talking about, like this right-wing slut, what’s her name? Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she’s a talk slut," Schultz said Tuesday on his program. "You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama’s doing it, they’re working him over.”
