Eddie Hassell, ‘Devious Maids’ Actor, Shot Dead in Texas at 30

Actor was killed outside his girlfriend’s home in the early morning hours

Eddie Hassell, an actor whose credits include the NBC show “Surface” and Lifetime’s “Devious Maids,” was killed in a shooting in Grand Prairie, Texas, early Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office. He was 30.

The actor was shot in the stomach outside his girlfriend’s apartment in Grand Prairie, a city between Dallas and Fort Worth, his rep told TheWrap.

Local police responded to a call at 1:50 a.m. Sunday to find Hassell suffering from a gunshot wound, click2houston.com reported. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There is no known motive for the crime, and investigators have called on the public to help in identifying the suspect or suspects, who remain at large.

According to Hassell’s rep, his girlfriend was in her apartment when the shooting occurred and did not see the assailant.

Hassell first broke out with a supporting role in the 2015 NBC series “Surface” as Phil Nance, the best friend of a teenager played by Carter Jenkins, who finds an egg off the coast of the Carolinas that hatches into an aquatic lizard with mysterious powers. Phil helps Carter’s character take care of the creature, naming it “Nim.”

Hassell also had a bit role in the 2010 dramedy “The Kids Are All Right,” which earned a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and Joshua Michael Sterns’ 2013 Steve Jobs biopic “Jobs.”

In addition, he had a recurring role in 2013 episodes of the Lifetime series “Devious Maids,” as well as cameos on shows like “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Southland” and “Bones.”
