Eddie Murphy Teases Return of His ‘SNL’ Characters – This ‘Maybe’ Includes Bill Cosby (Video)

Murphy makes his long-awaited return this Saturday

Eddie Murphy makes his long-awaited return to “SNL” this Saturday when he hosts the final episode of 2019. And, as with any other returning “SNL” castmember, that will likely mean the revival of some classic characters.

Murphy has a treasure trove of fan-favorite ones, from Gumby to Buckwheat to Mister Robinson. In an interview with Al Roker on the “Today” show, which you can watch above, Murphy said they’re all on the table. That could even include an impression of Bill Cosby.

Murphy hosts Saturday’s episode with Lizzo as the musical guest.

“[We’re] talking about a Gumby thing, and we’re talking about a Buckwheat thing,” he said. “A Bill Cosby thing, maybe. It would be very funny. I don’t know if he would think it was funny… I’m down for whatever, as long as its really, really funny.”

Aside from a brief appearance during the show’s 40th-anniversary celebration in 2015, Murphy hasn’t set foot on the Studio 8H stage since 1984, the same year he left the show. He added that he’s feeling the pressure of waiting 35 years to return.

“You don’t want to wait 35 years to come back, and the show ain’t s—.”
