Elisabeth Murdoch Hands Shine Group CEO Post to Alex Mahon

Murdoch will remain as chairman of the British television production company

Elisabeth Murdoch is ceding some of the leadership of Shine Group by elevating her lieutenant, Alex Mahon, to chief executive officer of the television company.

Murdoch, who has served as chair and CEO of the company since it was founded in 2001, said Wednesday that she believes that those two roles must now become distinct and separate. She will remain as chair of Shine, overseeing its creative talent and strategy.

Mahon will manage day-to-day operations. The changes will take place in September.

"Alex has earned this new leadership position in recognition of her substantial contribution to Shine’s growth from a single UK-based production company a decade ago to the global business we run today," Murdoch said in a statement.

Shine is a British-based television production company responsible for shows such as "The Biggest Loser," "Merlin" and "The Hour."

Mahon joined Shine Group in 2006 as managing director of Shine TV. She had previously served as COO of  talkbackTHAMES and as director of commercial development and strategy at FremantleMedia.
