Elle Fanning to Play Aspiring Pop Idol In ‘Teen Spirit’

The actress’s new project will be directed and written by “The Social Network” star Max Minghella

“20th Century Women” star Elle Fanning will star in “Teen Idol,” the directorial debut of “The Social Network” cast member Max Minghella, according to multiple media reports. Fanning will play Violet, a shy teen who enters a European singing competition to achieve her dreams of stardom with the help of an unlikely mentor.

Minghella; who played Divya Narendra, one of the Harvard upperclassmen who sued Mark Zuckerberg in “Social Network,”; is both directing and writing the movie, with Mister Smith Entertainment marketing the film to potential buyers in Berlin.  Jamie Bell, who co-wrote the script with Minghella, will be executive producer on the film. Fred Berger (“La La Land”) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (“Midnight Special”will also produce.

Fanning can currently be seen in theaters in the Oscar-nominated movie “20th Century Women,” and can next be seen in Sofia Coppola’s next film, “The Beguiled.”
