Elliot Gould, ‘SNL’s’ Nasim Pedrad Join John Mulaney and Martin Short in Fox’s ‘Mulaney’

The ensemble comedy will be shot as a multi-cam

Elliott Gould, Nasim Pedrad, Seaton Smith and Zack Pearlman are joining John Mulaney and Martin Short as cast members in Fox’s new ensemble multi-camera comedy, “Mulaney” (working title).

Set in New York, and based on the life and stand-up comedy of Mulaney, the new comedy follows an aspiring comedian (Mulaney) coming of age under the influence of his boss (Short), his roommates and his neighbors.

Elliott Gould (“Ray Donovan”) will play Oscar, Mulaney’s colorful and boisterous neighbor, a 71-year-old gay veteran of New York who has seen everything. Nasim Pedrad (“Saturday Night Live,” “The Awesomes”) is set to play one of John’s roommates, Jane, a personal trainer fixated on fairness and justice in her romantic life.

Seaton Smith will play Motif, an experienced comedian and ladies’ man whom Mulaney often tries to emulate, but never quite will. Motif also lives with John and Jane. Zack Pearlman (“The Inbetweeners,” “Community”) has been cast as Andre Van Horn, a stubborn but energetic 29-year-old trust fund baby.  Andre lives off a small amount of old family money, but does everything grandly: speaks grandly, lies grandly and drinks grandly.

Martin Short (“Saturday Night Live,” “Damages”) co-stars as Lou Cannon, Mulaney’s over-the-top boss who was a major stand-up comedian in the 1980’s and 90’s and now hosts a game show.

“Mulaney” is produced by Universal Television, Broadway Video and 3 Arts Entertainment. The series is created and written by John Mulaney. Lorne Michaels, Mulaney, David Miner (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “30 Rock”), Dave Becky (“Louie,” “Everybody Hates Chris”), Andrew Singer (“Portlandia”) and Andy Ackerman will serve as executive producers. Ackerman will direct the pilot.
