Elmo Puppeteer Cleared of Under-Age Sexual Relationship After Accuser Recants Story

Kevin Clash's accuser admits that his relationship with the Elmo puppeteer was adult and consensual

"Sesame Street" puppeteer Kevin Clash, who took a leave of absence Monday after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy, has been cleared.

The accuser “wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship,” the boy's law firm, Andreozzi & Associates, said in a statement Tuesday.

The puppeteer's accuser brought his story to the Workshop in June, claiming that he had an affair with Clash seven years ago.

He has never been named, and he will "have no further comment on the matter," the statement continued, according to the New York Times.

Sesame Workshop, which produces "Sesame Street," weighed in on the new development via its blog.

"We are pleased that this matter has been brought to a close, and we are happy that Kevin can move on from this unfortunate episode," the Workshop's blog post noted.

Clash has maintained his innocence throughout the episode.
