Emily Blunt and John Krasinski Explain Why They Joined Forces for ‘A Quiet Place’ (Exclusive Video)

“It was like she was proposing to me,” Krasinski says of Blunt pitching herself for the role

How did John Krasinski and Emily Blunt end up starring together in “A Quiet Place?” Well, here’s a cute little video of the real-life couple explaining how it came together.

Both Blunt and Krasinski separately visited TheWrap’s SXSW studio in Austin last month to discuss their new horror film that premiered there, and TheWrap asked the duo why “A Quiet Place” was the project that united them on-screen.

“We had been offered a few things to do together, none of which we had wanted to jump at because they were sort of rather cheesy romantic comedies,” Blunt said. “I don’t want to broadcast whether our chemistry works for people or not.”

Krasinski added, “We didn’t want our story of us being married to supersede any story we can tell in a movie. I always wanted Emily to play the part but we keep our careers very separate.”

Because Blunt had just given birth to their second daughter and she was busy shooting “Mary Poppins Returns,” Blunt started recommending other actresses for the part, but everything changed when she read the script.

“I just said, ‘you have to let me play this part,’” Blunt said.

“It was like she was proposing to me,” Krasinski added. “I’ll never forget it… It’s one of the biggest compliments.”

“A Quiet Place,” also directed by Krasinski, stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe and will hit theaters on Friday. It is about a family that has to live in complete silence, otherwise, these creatures will hunt them. Even the most normal tasks become daunting: eating dinner with the family, playing board games or going fishing makes the characters fear for their lives.
