Emma Roberts has been cast as the lead in a new figure skating series for Netflix.

The streaming service has given a 10-episode order to “Spinning Out,” which comes from Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell’s Safehouse Pictures and creator Samantha Stratton.

Roberts will star as Kat Baker, an up-and-coming singles skater about to hang up her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. Kat takes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a bad-boy partner, risking the exposure of a secret that could unravel her entire life. Kat and her new partner face daunting odds, both on and off the ice, injury, financial sacrifice and potential mental breakdowns on their journey toward realizing their dream of the Olympics.

Stratton, a former competitive figure skater herself, will co-showrun with Lara Olsen. They will both executive produce with Harold and Tunnell. Stratton most recently wrote on the Stephen King-inspired “Mr. Mercedes,” and Olsen most recently acted as EP for Netflix’s “Free Reign.” Harold and Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures recently executive produced “Underground.”

Roberts is currently starring in the eighth season of “American Horror Story” on FX, and recently completed production on “Paradise Hills.” Her other recent credits include “Who We Are Now,” “In a Relationship,” “Nerve,” and “We’re The Millers.”
