Ratings: ‘Code Black’ Season 2 Premiere Slips 20 Percent From Last Year’s Debut

CBS drama dives 26 percent in total viewers, but stays steady with freshman run’s finale

CBS’ “Code Black” Season 2 premiere slipped 20 percent among the key 18-49 demographic and 26 percent in total viewers versus last year’s series debut. The Les Moonves-led network settled for third in the main primetime demo last night — behind ABC — but managed to hold onto second place among overall audience members.

Meanwhile, “Empire” slipped double digits from its already (heavily) down Season 3 premiere. Still, Fox won Wednesday outright.

Fox was first in ratings with a 2.8 rating/10 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 8.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Lethal Weapon” at 8 p.m. had a 1.9/7 and 7.1 million viewers. At 9, “Empire” put up a 3.6/12 and 9.6 million viewers.

ABC was second in ratings with a 1.9/7 and third in viewers with 6.9 million. “The Goldbergs” at 8 got a 1.9/7 and 6.4 million viewers. At 8:30, “Speechless” received a 1.8/6 and 6.4 million viewers. “Modern Family” at 9 earned a 2.3/8 and 7.3 million viewers. At 9:30, “Black-ish” landed a 1.6/5 and 5.6 million viewers. “Designated Survivor” at 10 posted a 1.8/6 and 7.9 million viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 1.7/6 and second in viewers with 8.1 million. “Survivor” at 8 scored a 2.1/8 and 9.1 million viewers. “Criminal Minds” at 9 returned to a 1.8/6 and 8.9 million viewers. “Code Black” Season 2 opened at 10 to a 1.2/4 and 6.3 million viewers.

NBC was fourth in ratings with a 1.4/5 and in viewers with 5.9 million. “Blindspot” at 8 had a 1.2/5 and 5.6 million viewers. At 9, “Law & Order: SVU” got a 1.5/5 and 6 million viewers. “Chicago PD” at 10 ended up with the same demo rating/share, but rounded up to 6.1 million viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 1.73 million.

Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.68 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/1 and in viewers with 1.5 million. After a rerun, “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” at 9 had a 0.4/1 and 1.6 million viewers. Another repeat followed.
