(This post contains spoilers for the Season 4 finale of “Empire.”)
The Lyons are back — but not better than ever.
In a sneak peek from the upcoming fifth season premiere of “Empire,” the drama continues with Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) flat broke after a two-year time jump. But before we get to that, can we please talk about who the heck is in that coffin the family patriarch is standing over?!?
The “Empire” cast has a few theories, which they reveal in the teaser above — and yes, they wanna know “WHO IS IN THE COFFIN?!?” just as much as you do.
Everyone is really hoping it’s not them, but since multiple characters’ fates were left up in the air in the Season 4 finale, it’s gotta be someone, and this teaser heavily suggests it’s Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). But it could also be Anika (Grace Gealey). OK, maybe we should rewatch it, too.
The tease also gives us a look at Eddie (Forrest Whittaker), who is now in charge of Empire and Andre (Trai Byers), who is behind bars — presumably for the part he played in Anika’s death (if that’s her in the coffin). Meanwhile, Cookie and Lucious are working to start a new and “recreate magic from scratch” with the help of Jamal (Jussie Smollett), who is sure his parents will reign again.
