Mark Miller, longtime editorial director at Newsweek, is heading to the Texas Tribune, the non-profit, nonpartisan, well-funded local digital startup.
Miller, who left Newsweek in August — part of a mass staff exodus following the sale of the magazine to Sidney Harman — will become the Tribune’s editor, reporting to Evan Smith, Texas Tribune’s president. Miller will oversee day-to-day editorial operations, starting in December.
Miller had been with Newsweek more or less since 1985. (Miller spent two-and-a-half years as assistant managing editor at the Dallas Morning News and a year as a story editor at ABC News’ “Primetime Live.”) He was lauded for his coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial.
The Tribune, meanwhile, just celebrated its first anniversary. It launched on Election Day 2009.
Oh, and Newsweek still doesn't have a permanent editor.
