Fox Searchlight is in talks to distribute "Lola Versus," a romantic comedy from director Daryl Wein, and Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway is negotiating to star, individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.
Michael London's Groundswell Productions will finance and produce the project, which is keeping plot details under wraps for now.
Representatives for Groundswell said that the project is still at the packaging stage and that nothing has been firmed on either the talent or the distribution front.
Wein co-wrote the script with his "Breaking Upwards" collaborator Zoe Lister-Jones, who will also co-star.
Hathaway recently starred in "Valentine's Day" and "Alice in Wonderland," and is currently filming the romantic comedy "One Day" with Jim Sturgess. The "Rachel Getting Married" star has been earning awards buzz for her next movie, Ed Zwick's "Love and Other Drugs," a Fox 2000/New Regency romantic dramedy that pairs the talented young actress with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Lister-Jones previously co-wrote, produced and starred in Wein's indie drama "Breaking Upwards," and she also played minor roles in "Salt," The Other Guys" and "State of Play." The actress recently wrapped the indie comedy "Armless" and the coming-of-age drama "Stuck Between Stations," and will next be seen in Andrew Jarecki's long-delayed thriller "All Good Things."
Hathaway is represented by CAA and Management 360, while UTA represents Lister-Jones.
While Hathaway's casting has been on Deal Central's radar for quite some time, her involvement in the project was first reported by Variety last week in a two-sentence item about Lister-Jones signing with UTA.
