Exclusive: NBC Wants More ‘Chuck’

The network is close to ordering additional episodes of the Josh Schwartz spy comedy.

NBC is close to giving "Chuck" a big thumbs up.

The network will likely order as many as six additional episodes of the comedic spy adventure, two industry insiders familiar with the situation told TheWrap. The extra episodes would be on top of the 13 hours already ordered for season three.

NBC’s move could be a sign the network wants to bring "Chuck" back on the air in January, splitting its season into pre- and post-Olympics pods. Most industry insiders believe "Chuck" will return to its past 8 p.m. Monday timeslot, though NBC has been tight-lipped about its midseason scheduling plans.

If the Peacock wanted to go radical, it could stick to its plan to bring back "Chuck" in March, but keep the show in originals during the summer — giving "The Jay Leno Show" some lead-in love during the warm weather season. Such a move would be costly but does have some logic.

Reps for NBC and producer Warner Bros. TV had no comment.
