Showtime is in development on a pilot featuring "Chappelle's Show" co-creator Neal Brennan, his first series since the wildly popular but all-too-brief sketch show's run on Comedy Central.
His new show, "Seek and Destroy," is a half hour comedy that will star Brennan and stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff as a pair of comedians who begin each day talking about life at a coffee shop. It will feature their stories along with sketches, man-on-the-street interviews and other elements.
Several individuals close to the project confirmed details of the production to TheWrap.
Brennan was the longtime writing partner of Chappelle, but the pair eventually parted ways when Chappelle abruptly abandoned "Chappelle's Show" and a Comedy Central contract reportedly worth $55 million due to his concerns over creative direction of the series.
Since the end of "Chapelle's Show" in 2006, Brennan has worked sporadically. He wrote the 2006 VH1 TV movie "Totally Awesome" as well as four episodes of HBO's "Funny or Die Presents," which aired in 2010.
Comedy fans have been eagerly awaiting comebacks from both Brennan and Chappelle — and landing the show is a major coup for Showtime's comedy division.
Davidoff is a comedian from New Jersey who has guested on several TV shows including "Boston Legal," "Law & Order" and "Third Watch." He also appeared in the 2006 football movie "Invincible," which starred Mark Wahlberg.
Brennan and Davidoff both have writer/producer credits on "Seek and Destroy." Brennan will also be directing the pilot. Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope are executive producing for Chernin Entertainment.
Showtime purchased "Seek and Destroy" about a year ago. Production on the pilot will behind in mid-October.
