‘Expedition Unknown’: Josh Gates Is Going All ‘Indiana Jones’ in Season 5 (Exclusive Video)

TheWrap can reveal Discovery show’s return date — and a teaser

Discovery’s “Expedition Unknown,” hosted by Josh Gates, is set to return for Season 5 on Wednesday, April 10, TheWrap has learned exclusively. We’ve also got your exclusive sneak peek above of Gates doing his best “Indiana Jones” throughout this run of adventures.

This season, Gates is after Nazi fortune and will try to learn the truth behind the actual Crystal Skull of Doom. Additionally, the explorer will also dive in the Great Lakes in search of The Griffon — the “Holy Grail” (yes, Discovery’s clearly going with a Gates-as-Harrison-Ford theme this year) of lost American shipwrecks.

Gates will want to keep his diving gear handy for when he ventures below the surface of South America’s Lake Titicaca on the hunt for the Atlantis of the Andes. He’ll get to dry off in France, scouring the countryside to crack a devious puzzle that leads to a golden statue, per Discovery’s seasonal logline.

And don’t start thinking you’re safe, Dead Sea Scrolls.

“Expedition Unknown” is produced by Ping Pong Productions. Executive producers are Gates, Brad Kuhlman, Casey Brumels, Daniel A. Schwartz, Michael Gara and Bill Howard. Brea Tisdale is co-executive producer, coordinating producer is Cameron Doyle.

Season 5 of “Expedition Unknown” premieres Wednesday, April 10 at 9/8c on Discovery Channel.
