Fox has a script for and is developing an event series around action icon Sylvester Stallone‘s explosive film franchise “The Expendables,” TheWrap has learned.
Stallone and the films’ producer Avi Lerner will executive produce the project, described as a fun action drama centering on a team of heroes trying to thwart a terrorist.
Stallone penned the scripts for all three “Expendables” films, but Greg Coolidge (“Ride Along”), Kirk Ward (“Roadrunner the Movie”) and Shane Brennan (“NCIS: Los Angeles” creator) are writing-executive producing the TV adaptation. Kevin King, of Stallone’s production company Rogue Marble, is also executive producing.
Lionsgate TV, whose features counterpart distributed the theatrical films, is developing the adaptation with CBS TV Studios, which has an overall deal with Brennan.
Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Jet Li co-starred with Stallone in the most recent “Expendables” installment, which brought in less than $40 million at the U.S. box office.
Fox has not yet cast the event series.
Deadline first reported the news.
