Facebook Unveils Same-Sex Marriage Icons

Same-sex couples can now post dual grooms or brides on their timelines

Anderson Cooper wasn't the only person to come out on Monday. Facebook rolled out new same-sex marriage icons, allowing users to declare wedlock with dual grooms or brides on their timelines.

The move follows a similar one from Apple, which unveiled new same-sex emojis — those pictorial icons of everything from feces to Union Jacks to hand-holding couples.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation noted in a blog post that Facebook — the first social media company to win a Glaad media award — has long been a supporter of gay equality, unveiling last year options to list a user's relationship status as "In a Civil Union" or "In a Domestic Partnership."
