Fandango Acquires Brazil’s Largest Online Movie Ticketer

The NBCUniversal company buys Ingresso.com from B2W Digital

Fandango has acquired Brazil’s largest online movie ticketer, Ingresso.com, from the Latin American e-commerce company B2W Digital, the American company announced Friday.

Based in Rio de Janeiro, Ingresso has more than six million registered customers. In addition to movies, the service also sells tickets to concerts, soccer games and cultural events.

This is Fandango’s first international acquisition.

“As our ongoing commitment to the domestic business continues to produce record-breaking results, we see this as an opportune moment to expand outside of the United States,” says Fandango president Paul Yanover.  “We are thrilled to work with the talented Ingresso team and build upon their already successful organization.  Latin America presents the next logical growth area for Fandango, and we look forward to extending our leading online and mobile ticketing capabilities to Brazil’s entertainment fans.”

Brazil has a leading moviegoing population, which accounted for 40 percent of Latin American box office dollars in 2014. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, Latin America is the world’s 11th largest theatrical market — by the end of 2020, it is predicted to be the fifth largest.

Fandango will bring to Ingresso its various online and mobile entertainment products, as well as its Fandango Movieclips content.

B2W Digital is Latin America’s leading e-commerce company and operates through a digital platform. It works with brands such as Americanas.com, Shoptime and Digital Finance. It also operates B2W Services, a platform for virtual stores.
