‘The Crown’ Season 2: Queen’s Life Rocked With Scandal in First Teaser (Video)

The second season of the royal drama premieres Dec. 8 on Netflix

Netflix revealed a first look Thursday at the second season of the critically-acclaimed series “The Crown,” following the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the show’s upcoming season, the Queen’s life will be rocked by scandal. She continues to lose prime ministers and her sister, Princess Margaret, becomes the center of a paparazzi campaign. Meanwhile, her husband Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (Matt Smith) can be seen traveling all around the world, hitting up Hawaii and even Antarctica.

“I’ve learned more about humiliation in the past few weeks than I hoped I would in a lifetime,” the Queen (Emmy-nominated actress Claire Foy) says in the teaser.

Season 2 will tackle the United Kingdom’s move from World War II into the revolutionary 1960s. It begins with the soldiers of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt and ends with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, after multiple scandals.

The streaming service also released more first look photos, which include one of the Queen pregnant. Season 2 introduces two new members of the royal family: Prince Andrew (born in 1960) and Prince Edward (born in 1964).

The audience also gets a look at some of the guests that’ll be visiting the palace this season in the teaser, including President John F. Kennedy (Michael C. Hall) and First Lady Jackie Kennedy (Jodi Balfour).

“The Crown” received 10 Emmy nominations in 2017, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress for Claire Foy and Outstanding Supporting Actor for John Lithgow.

“The Crown” will hit the streaming platform on Dec. 8.
