‘New Mutants:’ Fox Releases First Trailer for Josh Boone’s ‘X-Men’ Spinoff (Video)

“Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy headline young adult superhero movie that hits theaters April 2018

Fox has just released the first trailer for Josh Boone’s “X-Men” spinoff “New Mutants,”  the ensemble, young adult superhero movie.

“New Mutants” will be released in theaters on April 13, 2018.

“New Mutants” was created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod in the early 1980s and was the first “X-“Men comic spinoff.

“New Mutants” focuses on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.

Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch,” “Split”) and “Game of Thrones” Maisie Williams both headline “New Mutants.” Williams is set to play Rahne Sinclair, or Wolfsbane, who must figure out how to reconcile her ability to turn into a wolf with her religious beliefs. Taylor-Joy is Illyana Rasputin, or Magik, a sorceress that uses teleportation and discs to travel. The cast also includes “Queen of the South” star Alice Braga. Braga will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes. Her character in the spinoff acts as a mentor for the young adult ensemble cast.

Josh Boone, the director, and Knate Lee are writers and Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing the superhero film.
