Fox News’ Marc Thiessen Calls GOP Midterm Results a ‘Searing Indictment of the Republican Party’ (Video)

The party “needs to do a really deep introspection look in the mirror right now” the former Bush speechwriter said

Fox News commentator and Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen said the Republican Party has a lot of rethinking to do following the 2022 midterm elections Tuesday night. The former speechwriter for President George W. Bush described the midterms as a “searing indictment” of the party, referring to election day as an “absolute disaster” for the GOP.

While control of the Senate and the House still remains unclear, Democrats have performed far better than expected. In fact, the Republican Party is likely to end up with one of the worst performances during a first midterm election in decades.

Speaking further on Tuesday’s results to Fox News, Thiessen said that Republicans “need to do a really deep introspection look in the mirror right now,” as the much-hyped “red wave” failed to appear.

“That is a searing indictment of the Republican Party,” he said. “That is a searing indictment of the message that we have been sending to the voters. They looked at all of that, looked at the Republican alternative and said, ‘No thanks.’”

Thiessen went on to examine the current state of the nation, citing the high inflation rate, a rise in crime and the border “crisis” – all issues that typically would have been an indictment of the party in power, Democrats.

“There is a broader issue and think about this – we have the worst inflation in four decades,” he said. “The worst collapse in real wages in 40 years, the worst crime wave since the 1990s, the worst border crisis in U.S. history. We have Joe Biden, who is the least popular president since Harry Truman, since presidential polling happened. And there wasn’t a red wave.”

Thiessen also expressed his disappointment in the GOP and its support of “radical members” who he said have now left “the Republican Party in a terrible position.”

“We need to look at who won today – [Florida Governor] Ron DeSantis, [Ohio Governor Mike] DeWine, [Georgia Governor Brian] Kemp … This is the path to the future,” he said. “Voters have indicted the Republican Party.”
