Fox Wins Sweeps, Thanks to World Series

Victory is the network’s first in November race, and it comes in convincing fashion.

Fueled by solid World Series ratings, as well as consistent performances from series including “House,” “The Cleveland Show,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Glee,” Fox won its first ever November sweeps, and won it in convincing fashion.

The network finished the period with a 3.6 rating in the key adults 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen estimates, a 20 percent year-to-year improvement over its last November sweeps mark.

The only network to register growth the adult demo, Fox enjoyed a 14 percent margin of victory over the next closest competitor, ABC (3.1 rating) – the largest winning margin in the November sweeps race over the last five years.

Meanwhile, hamstrung by lukewarm performances from key shows including "The Mentalist," CBS finished in third place with a 3.0 demo rating, followed by NBC (2.6) and CW (1.2).

For its part, Fox benefited from its best World Series viewership since 2004, with a matchup featuring the big-market New York Yankees averaging over 22 million viewers.

ABC, which was dominant in the female demos, won the sweeps race when sports were excluded.
