Fred Willard, Ed Begley Jr., Michael McKean Join Christopher Guest’s HBO Comedy

Christopher Guest's "Family Tree" will focus on a man investigating his relatives' unusual past

Christopher Guest is enlisting some familiar faces for his upcoming HBO comedy "Family Tree."

Ed Begley, Jr., Fred Willard and Michael McKean have signed on for the series, which centers on Tom Chadwick (Chris O'Dowd), a 30-year-old man who loses his job and his girlfriend and begins investigating his family's unusual past after inheriting a mysterious box of belongings from a great aunt he'd never met.

Begley has been cast as Tom's Uncle Andy, while Willard will play Andy's neighbor Mike. McKean, meanwhile, will play Tom's father, Keith.

All three have collaborated with Guest before in projects such as "Best in Show," "A Mighty Wind" and "This Is Spinal Tap."

Guest will direct "Family Tree," which was ordered direct to series by HBO, while frequent Guest collaborator Jim Piddock created and wrote the project and will executive-produce.

A Lucky Giant, which is a part of NBC Universal International Television Production, will produce the project. BBC Two will air the program in the U.K.

Hollywood Reporter first reported the "Family Tree" castings.
