‘The Fundamentals of Caring’ Trailer Features Paul Rudd Talking Dirty About Katy Perry (Video)

Writer-director Rob Burnett’s movie also stars Craig Roberts and Selena Gomez

Paul Rudd and Craig Roberts (“Red Oaks”) fantasize about a decidedly R-rated make-a-wish with pop star Katy Perry in the new trailer for the comedic drama “The Fundamentals of Caring.”

The movie, which Netflix acquired at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, stars Rudd as a retired writer named Ben who becomes the caregiver of a foul-mouthed 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy named Trevor (Roberts) whose biggest aspiration is an intimate counter with the pop star that would give new meaning to her hit “Fireworks.”

One paralyzed emotionally, one paralyzed physically, Ben and Trevor take an impromptu road trip to all the places Trevor has become obsessed with while watching the local news, including their holy grail: the World’s Deepest Pit.

Along the way, they pick up a smart-mouthed runaway (Selena Gomez) and a mother-to-be who help test the pair’s survival skills outside of their calculated existence as they come to understand the importance of hope and true friendship.

The movie, based on the novel by Jonathan Evison, also stars Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller.

It was written, directed and produced by Rob Burnett, long-time executive producer of “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

Netflix plans to release the film on its streaming service on June 24.
