‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8, Episode 5 Preview: The Final Battle Is About to Begin on Cersei’s Turf (Video)

Everyone heads to King’s Landing for a showdown

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for “Game of Thrones” Episode 804, titled “The Last of the Starks”)

Just two episodes of “Game of Thrones” remain, and based on the teaser for next week’s Episode 5, it will be the true battle to end all battles. Yes, it looks even more intense and horrifying than “The Long Night,” because the true villain here was never the Night King — it was Cersei Lannister.

In a preview (above) released following Sunday’s episode, “The Last of the Starks,” everyone is gathering in King’s Landing for a showdown between Jon Snow and Daenerys’ army and Cersei and Euron Greyjoy’s forces. There is no dialogue in the 49-second clip, just a lot of waiting and music that raises the tension considerably.

“The Last of the Starks” revealed the aftermath of the Battle of Winterfell and Jon and Danys’ plans to head south and take King’s Landing. But Cersei had her own strategy brewing in the background. Before the end of the 1-hour, 18-minute episode, Cersei had directly or indirectly claimed the lives of Danys’ dragon, Rhaegal, and her dear friend, Missandei.
