‘The View’: Sunny Hostin Shreds Gavin Newsom’s ‘Despicable’ Podcast Conversation With Steve Bannon

“I thought that that was one of the most inauthentic things I have seen Gavin Newsom do,” the ABC host says

The hosts of “The View” were not overly impressed with California governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast interview with Steve Bannon this week, with Sunny Hostin even going so far as to call it despicable.

During the episode, Newsom not only allowed Bannon to mock him personally, but did not immediately call Bannon out when he racistly referred to Senator Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas.” Newsom also did not push back much when Bannon said that he and Newsom simply disagreed on who actually won the 2020 election, despite the fact that there was no proof that Biden won unfairly.

In discussing the episode, Hostin called out that lack of pushback, lamenting that Newsom was once very vocal about being in opposition to Republicans.

“I thought that that was one of the most inauthentic things I have seen Gavin Newsom do. I’m terribly disappointed,” Hostin said. “I think you meet energy with energy, and what he did was he showed his pretty white teeth and his cute face and did nothing other than that. And I think it’s despicable!”

Host Sara Haines agreed, arguing earlier in the segment that, while she fully believes in talking with people you disagree with, fact-checking should be a bare minimum.

“I say over and over at this table, you have got to have the conversations, even with the difficult people. But there was no pushback on some things,” she said. “When he talked about, you know, he said ‘We disagree on who won the election,’ factually, that was a moment where you say, ‘No, there has been zero proof.’”

“Or let him hang himself, and push back and say ‘So, when you say that, what do you mean?’ And make him explain to the listeners how he gets there, because then they have heard enough,” she continued.

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
