Gerard Butler to Star in International Action Thriller ‘Remote Control’

”300“ star will play a former war correspondent turned corporate security consultant in movie from Hyde Park and Eon

Gerard Butler is set to star in Hyde Park Entertainment’s and Eon Productions’ international action thriller “Remote Control.” Butler’s G-BASE Entertainment is also attached.

John Mathieson (“Gladiator”) will direct the movie, which is an adaptation of a Mark Burnell novel. Burnell did the adapting himself, writing the screenplay.

STXfilms has worldwide rights for the film. The STX Entertainment division will introduce the film to buyers at EFM (European Film Market) this week.

“Remote Control” follows Michael Rafter (Butler), a former war correspondent turned corporate security consultant, whose life is overturned when he receives a mysterious phone call from an unknown source. Intrigued by the caller’s intent, Rafter investigates and soon uncovers the threads of a global conspiracy, finding himself drawn into a fight for his life and pursued by the 212, a powerful shadow organization.

Rafter soon discovers he has been targeted and framed as the notorious international assassin, Julian Irving. With his own identity erased, Rafter turns to the only person he can trust — his former lover, Tracy, who is also implicated in the conspiracy. Now on the run together, they must stay ahead of the 212, the CIA and a team of professional assassins, and unravel the mystery while trying to stay alive.

Butler, Ashok Amritraj, Alan Siegel, Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, Priya Amritraj, Addison Mehr and Danielle Robinson are executive producers.

“As a producer and a star, Gerard Butler continues to be an extraordinary partner,” Adam Fogelson, chairman of the STXfilms motion picture group, said Tuesday in a statement. “We are excited to be re-teaming with him and G-Base on ‘Remote Control.’ This is the kind of high-stakes action story that he does best. The complete package of Gerard, Michael and Barbara at EON, and Ashok at Hyde Park makes this a hard-to-beat proposition for STX.”

“‘Remote Control’ is a thrilling, action-packed story that is very timely for audiences around the globe,” Amritraj said. “This project is a great match for the incredible team of Gerard Butler and John Mathieson, who excel at creating exceptional movie-going experiences. We are very excited to partner with Adam Fogelson, Sam Brown and STXfilms, who are the perfect partners to bring this film to the screen.”

Butler is represented by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment. Mathieson is represented by Independent Talent Group, Burnell is represented by David Higham & Co.
