While she'll always be closely associated with Special Agent Dana Scully of the FBI, Gillian Anderson has carved out a solid post-"X-Files" niche playing characters from Charles Dickens novels.
Six years after starring in the BBC's critically acclaimed adaptation of "Bleak House," which aired on PBS in 2006, Anderson is in discussions to play Miss Havisham in a new version of "Great Expectations."
Filming on the project — a co-production between the BBC and PBS' long-running "Masterpiece Theatre" franchise — begins in July and the three-part drama will air on BBC this Christmas to coincide with the 200th birthday of Dickens. There's no word yet on when it will air in America.
Ray Winstone ("Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull") has already signed on to play escaped criminal Magwitch and relative newcomer Douglas Booth will play the orphan hero Pip. The miniseries will be a reworking of the classic by Sarah Phelps, who also adapted "Oliver Twist" for the BBC in 2007.
