GLAAD Nominees: ‘Glee’ to ‘Burlesque’ to ‘Kids Are All Right’

Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation singles out movies, TV shows, journalism, theater and music

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced the nominees for its 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, with the honorees running the gamut from "The Kids Are All Right" and "Howl" to "Burlesque" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" in film, "True Blood" to "Glee" in television, and Chely Wright to Antony and the Johnsons in music.

Annette Bening and Julianne MooreGLAAD nominees covered 23 categories in the fields of film, television, journalism, music, theater and comic books, plus another nine Spanish-language categories.

Film nominees included "The Kids Are All Right" (left), "Burlesque," "Easy A," "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "Scott Pilgrim" in the Outstanding Film – Wide Release category, and "Howl," "I Love You Phillip Morris," "La Mission," "Patrik Age 1.5" and "Undertow" in Outstanding Film – Limited Release.

GleeNominees for Outstanding Drama Series were "Brothers & Sisters," "Degrassi," "Grey's Anatomy," "Pretty Little Liars" and "True Blood," while the Outstanding Comedy Series category was comprised of "Glee," "GREEK," "Modern Family," "Nurse Jackie" and "United States of Tara."

The awards are designed to honor media that displays "fair, accurate and inclusive" depictions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. "This year’s nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios in the press release announcing the nominees. "They also have created a benchmark for inclusion of our community that other media outlets should look to."

The GLAAD Media Awards will be presented at three separate ceremonies. The first will take place at the Marriott Marquis in New York's Times Square on March 19; the second at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles on April 16; and the last at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco on May 14.
