‘Glee’ Order Dropped to 13 Episodes

The final shows will run on consecutive weeks

The final season of “Glee” has been reduced from 22 to 13 episodes.

The run to the finale will air over 13 consecutive weeks. On a conference call during May’s television upfronts, outgoing Fox chief Kevin Reilly had hinted that the final season may not run as originally ordered.

The network elected to make the last season more of an event-style run, according to a network insider. But “Glee” has been struggling in the ratings. The most recent series finale for the show in May hit an all-time low for the series in the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers, receiving just a 0.6 rating/2 share, with 1.9 million total viewers.

Last July, the series was struck by tragedy when cast member Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on the series and was romantically involved with series star Lea Michele, died at age 31 of an accidental drug overdose.
