‘Glee’ Star Naya Rivera to Host GLAAD’s San Francisco Media Awards

“Sex and the City” star Kim Cattrall will also be honored for her advocacy of equality

Naya Rivera, who plays cheerleader Santana Lopez on Fox's hit musical series "Glee," will host the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation [GLAAD] Media Awards' San Francisco ceremony this year, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The ceremony, which will take place May 14 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, will also honor "Sex and the City" star Kim Cattrall with the Golden Gate Award. The honor goes to "professionals who, through their work, have increased the visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community."

GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said of the choice, "Kim Cattrall has not only grown acceptance of our community through storylines on shows like 'Sex and the City,' but used her platform to speak out for equality."

Past recipients of the Golden Gate Award include Jennifer Beals, Cybill Shepherd and Jennifer Tilly.

"America's Best Dance Crew" host Mario Lopez and "Grey's Anatomy" actress Sara Ramirez will serve as special guests at the San Francisco ceremony, which was preceded by ceremonies in New York on March 19 and Los Angeles April 10.

"Glee" won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series this year, the second year in a row it has done so.
