Just two days after his controversial "Restoring Honor" rally in Washington D.C. that attracted anywhere between 78,000 and 500,000 people depending on who you ask, Glenn Beck launched his latest venture, a conservative news and opinion site called TheBlaze.com.
Beck chose to launch the site because of his frustration with "mainstream media outlets distorting facts to fit rigid agendas," the Fox News firebrand writes in an introductory letter posted on the site Monday evening. "But there comes a time when you have to stop complaining and do something. And so we decided to hire some actual journalists to launch a new website — The Blaze. And we moved fast. We built the team and the site in just two months."
Why the name? "The image of flame is powerful," Beck writes. "It has long stood for a burning truth. A truth that is not consumed."
Scott Baker, formerly with Andrew Breitbart's burgeoning conservative web empire, is editor of Beck's venture, according to Mediaite, where the Beck site launch was first reported.
When visiting the homepage Monday night, the opening night lineup included a mix of original news and coverage of Beck himself, such as Huffington Post pulling the satirical offer seeking a Glenn Beck sex tape, as well as how the media covered Beck's weekend rally.
