‘GoodFellas’ Pair Lands Mafia Series With Discovery

Series will trace the crime families of New York

Discovery Networks is getting mobbed up with Irwin Winkler and Nicholas Pileggi.

“GoodFellas” producer Winkler and writer Pileggi have entered a deal with Discovery for a scripted series, “The Five Families,” about a subject they know a thing or two about — crime families.

“The Five Families” will be the first “to invoke the real figures and actual events in the history of the Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, Bonanno and Colombo Mafia families — the famed five crime families of New York,” the network said in a statement.

Pileggi (pictured) will write the pilot script for the series.

“The Five Families” will debut across Discovery Communications’ global networks.
