Every week, the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism releases data on which topics are the most popular on both traditional and new media platforms.
While the economy and next year's election dominated last week (Aug. 15-19) in terms of what news outlets were covering, the blogosphere and Twitter were far more media-focused.
The $12.5 billion Google-Motorola deal led the week on Twitter, followed by the News of the World phone hacking scandal. That would suggest that while coverage of the hacking scandal may not be as intense as it once was, public interest is still there.
According to Pew, media dominated the blogopshere to an even greater extent. Rumors about the new iPhone's release date and design led the pack, followed by the election, the Google-Motorola deal, the end of Hewlett-Packard tablets and Foursquare.
The one new media platform that did not love media stories? YouTube. The stage crash in Indiana produced four of the site's five most popular videos.
