Google’s New ‘Instant Search’ — It Changes While You Type

Predicts what you’re searching, shows results while you type and changes in real time

The search giant unveiled Wednesday its new search enhancement, Google Instant.

"Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a 10th of the time!) to glance at another part of the page," the company said in an announcement. "This means that you can scan a results page while you type."

Google will then show you search results while you type, predicting what you are searching for and changing in real time.

"By predicting your search and showing results before you finish typing, Google Instant can save 2-5 seconds per search," the company said.
