GOP’s Super-Hip ‘American Dream’ Campaign Spokesman Gets Slaughtered by YouTube Viewers (Video)

Scott Greenberg is the GOP’s cool, new spokesman who can’t remember 30 seconds worth of commercial copy without cue cards

The Republican National Committee hopes new spokesman “Scott Greenberg” will convince citizens to “create your American dream” by voting for the political party, but all he’s really doing is reminding viewers how important it is for actors — er, uh, hip, young conservatives — to remember their lines.

The videos titled “Paycheck” (above) and “All of the Above” (below) feature a 20-something dressed in deceptively stylish clothing (a.k.a. what all the cool kids are wearing these days) while delivering a load of propaganda he’s clearly reading off of cue cards behind the camera in front of him.

“I get ticked off at politicians who say they want to help the unemployed, and then vote for regulations that make it impossible to hire anyone,” the actor says with his eyes gazing off past the right-hand corner of the screen. “Listen, you can’t help the unemployed by hurting the people that could employ them. I’m a Republican because my friends need a paycheck, not an empty promise.”

YouTube audiences aren’t buying it — “Paycheck” has garnered 1,092 thumbs down, compared to just 99 thumbs up, at the moment — but at least they appear to be enjoying it.

Responses range from, “LOL, hilarious” to “who is he staring at?” and even “this makes me embarrassed to be a Republican.”

“As much as I agree with what he is saying, this is terrible marketing,” one viewer wrote. “C’mon GOP!”

The RNC has not yet responded to TheWrap‘s request for comment on the backlash proving the old adage, “You get what you pay for.”

Here’s Scott’s second ad.
