‘Gotham’s’ Robin Lord Taylor Teases Penguin’s ‘Big Move’ in War Against Fish Mooney (Video)

Fox villain also teases his big showdown with Jada Pinkett Smith’s character on Monday’s episode

It’s been a long time coming for “Gotham’s” Oswald Cobblepot, but on the Fox drama’s most recent episode the character finally embraced the nickname he once reviled — Penguin.

“I think that was his first sort of coming out to the world as Penguin,” Robin Lord Taylor said on Monday, when he visited TheWrap‘s studios to discuss his recently renewed drama. “It was obviously a big moment for him.”

“I felt like that was the moment where it suddenly became so much less of a slur to him,” he added. “His ambition just launched right from that moment on.”

But there are even bigger moments in store for the DC Comics–inspired villain on Monday night’s all new episode, “What the Little Bird Told Us.”

“Now we start to see him torn between both of the families. He’s trying to cover both of his bases and yet also cover himself,” Taylor explained. “He has dirt on Fish Mooney [Jada Pinkett Smith] and this is where he uses it and really makes a big move.”

In speaking to TheWrap, the actor also revealed his true arch-enemy on the series and — spoiler alert — it’s not hero Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie).

Taylor also shared the story of how he learned “Gotham” was coming back for Season 2 and went on to imagine a fate for his character much worse than being killed off:

“They could just dump me in Arkham Asylum and that would be that,” Taylor joked. “You never know. It’s Gotham City and anything goes.”

“Gotham” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
