Grammys: Watch ‘Hamilton’ Star Lin-Manuel Miranda Rap the Night’s Best Speech (Video)

Star’s Broadway sensation won Best Musical Theater Album

Lin-Manuel Miranda didn’t just perform a song from his hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” at the Grammys on Monday night — he rapped his way through his acceptance speech for Best Musical Theater Album a few minutes later.

In the middle of the Grammys telecast, the actor and composer behind the show based on the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton performed the song “Alexander Hamilton” with his cast via satellite from New York.

Just minutes later, when his win was announced from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, he retook the stage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and gave thanks in verse, before a thrilled audience and surrounded by fellow cast members.

Miranda previously won the 2009 Best Musical Theater Album prize for “In the Heights.”

His “Hamilton” acceptance was one of the biggest highlights of this year’s Grammys. Watch it above.
