Green Day has postponed the first three dates of their upcoming tour and cancelled a fourth appearance because members of the band and crew are sick, the band announced Sunday.
“We’re so sad to announce we have to postpone three shows and cancel Toronto,” Green Day said in a statement. “Many of us have been battling this infection for days on end to be ready, and it just got the best of us.”
The postponed dates are St. Louis on Sept. 20, Chicago on Sept. 21 and Detroit on Sept. 24. The show in Toronto at the World Cup of Hockey Fan Village on Sept. 23 has been canceled.
Schedule permitting, Green Day will make up all dates but Toronto, and tickets will be honored at the new dates. Fans who would like to obtain a refund can do so from their original point of purchase.
Vocalist-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt formed the group in 1986, and drummer Tre Cool joined in 1990. The have sold more than 75 million records worldwide, won five Grammy Awards and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“American Idiot,” a Broadway musical based on the group’s 2004 album of the same name, opened on Broadway in 2010 and closed the next year.
