Greta Van Susteren’s husband defended her on Tuesday by calling her former MSNBC colleagues “whores” in a tweet.

Van Susteren initially shared ratings from her short-lived show in response to a Daily Beast article about MSNBC’s future that referenced her six-month stint there. Her husband, John Coale, then took over, quote-tweeting her and writing, “Your ratings were much better than the whores who work at Msnbc. The on air chickens will say anything the suits tell them to. Just to keep their pathetic jobs. Have fun Shep !”

The Daily Beast article said that MSNBC brass has been eyeing former Fox News anchor Shep Smith for a role, similar to how the network took Van Susteren when she herself absconded from Fox News in 2017. A representative for MSNBC had no comment on the report.

A representative for MSNBC did not immediately respond to request for comment on Coale’s comments. Van Susteren also did not immediately return a request for comment on her time at MSNBC or her husband’s statements about the network.

Van Susteren made her return to television with a new syndicated show on local news giant Gray Television in fall 2019.

Her program, “Full Court Press with Greta Van Susteren,” airs weekly on Gray’s 93 stations plus additional markets in Chicago and Milwaukee. The new show reaches 28% of the local news market in the U.S.
