Up-and-coming actress Pom Klementieff, who appeared in Spike Lee‘s “Oldboy” and the French thriller “Sleepless Night,” has landed a key role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

James Gunn returns to direct the sequel, which will once again star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, while Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel will reprise their voice roles as Rocket and Groot, respectively.

Details of Klementieff’s role remain under wraps, but she beat out a number of other Asian actresses thanks to well-received chemistry reads with the “Guardians” cast.

Production will begin early next year, with Disney releasing “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” on May 5, 2017. The original space opera grossed $774 million worldwide.

Klementieff is represented by Untitled Entertainment. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of her casting.
