It takes a lot of work and thought to make an authentic care-free badass.
Marvel is in the midst of a monster opening weekend for its newest franchise, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which opened to $37.8 million on Friday and could make upwards of $98 million for the weekend. To prime the pump, the studio has continued to release videos to engage and excite fans (and potential ticket-buyers), including this new one about the making of the characters’ costumes and weapons.

The motley crew, led by Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, are very different than your usual comic book heroes, with space age guns and the kinds of costumes that we have never seen on screen before. Pratt’s Star-Lord, for example, needed weapons as part of his costume, while Saldana’s Gamora had a sword-belt that is terrifying to anyone who ever has to stand in crowded spaces.

Dave Bautista‘s Drax, meanwhile, needed two 19-inch swords. Mercy. And Rocket Raccoon’s big blaster? That was the hardest prop to make of all. Typical.
